Q Strategy & Its Importance - ungraded Use terminology, concepts, and theory from your readings and from your past classes to identify why strategy is important. ________________________________________ What is an Open Discussion? Although not graded, an Open Discussion is a forum that allows you to connect with your peers on the topic provided in the given Module. The Open Discussions are often tied to another activity or even to the graded Discussion Post. So remember, although it isn't graded, it is important to each of the Open Discussions in this course. What to Post? Examine the role of strategy in a company familiar to you. You should choose a company that you’re interested in researching a bit, and you should focus your discussion on the importance of having a good, sound, forward-looking strategy. Based on the company you've selected, answer the Challenge Question. Challenge Question: Why is strategy important in the company you selected? • Post your response to this Open Discussion Board. • Respond to at least one classmate. ________________________________________ Purpose: By completing this activity, you should be able to see a personal connection between the ideas behind the formation of strategy and how that actual strategy impacts the company. Requirements: Post your initial response to the discussion question no later than Thursday 11:59 PM EST/EDT. Respond to at least one of your classmates no later than Sunday 11:59 PM EST/EDT. If you are posting your initial response, select the Start a New Thread button. If you are responding, select the Reply to Thread button for the thread you wish to respond to.

The company I chose is The Boeing Company. Boeing has been in the aviation manufacturing business for over 100 years and has the staying strategy. Initially their strategy was aimed at military aviation, especially during World Ward 1 and 2. Eventually, their strategy added commercial aviation. This change in the way they did business led to a huge profit over the years. The recent 737 MAX debacle has landed the company in very hot water. Their strategy will have to change to the extraordinary circumstances that have come about from the 737 MAX. I work with several Boeing employees currently and they have been offer a lot of money to go to Washington state and work on the 737 Max fleet to correct the problems that have been identified.
